Out with the New and in with the Old!

On February 21 st , The Old Church will be transformed into a 1920’s delight: “The 21 Club”...Prohibition did not stop the party people and so came the rise of these underground speakeasies where a false fa cade would lead to a secret bar...we may look like a church on the outside but wait until you experience the inside!

Period costumed guests will experience a Great Gatsby nightclub feeling-a night of frivolous fun, sumptuous fare, cocktails and dancing to Big Band sounds of The Rodger Fox Band.

Big News – Our executive chef, Francky Godinho is on his way to Wales ! He is travelling with fellow members of the New Zealand Culinary Team to compete in the Welsh Internationl Culinary Championships, February 17 th – 19 th .

We invite you to come and enjoy the special fundraising event. Six courses, 4 of which   will be matched perfectly with a delightful Hawkes Bay Wine – each course will be described by the responsible celebrity chef and the wine selection explained by the winemaker.

More great morsels from Morrison Street

It’s been a fine hot Nelson summer so far and the summer menu has been going down a treat, and b ecause there has been so many requests from happy customers wanting to take a taste of Morrison Street Cafe home with them, they are now packaging some of their favourites in eco-friendly take-home packs.

Over the next few weeks watch out for their in-house muesli, the Indian spiced nuts and their own wheat and gluten free bread to appear on their retail shelf. Ask at the front counter for their cashew nut & capsicum pesto and their in-house mayonnaise and hummus, which are all kept in the chiller. Plus there's the usuals like the hemega 3 hempseed oil, Kakariki's extra-virgin olive oil, their seasonal art products and bags of their favourite Atomic coffee.

Also watch for their new autumn menu, due for release in mid-March.

Great place to take the kids too...

Fernielea Cafe is the coolest place to be this summer, situated in Coatesville (just 5 Mins drive north of Albany ), we have the perfect location for the whole family.

Our shaded breezy deck is the ultimate spot to meet friends for brunch or lunch, we are fully licensed and open 8.30am until 4.00pm, Tuesday through Sunday.

We also boast a beautiful landscaped garden complete with playground and sandpit for the children.   The latest addition to our stunning premises are our glass house and pottager gardens which supply organic produce to our kitchen.

Our delicious cafe menu covers all tastes, from our succulent cumin spiced lamb burger to our chicken, pear and Parmesan salad.   We also offer a range of counter food which is all made in house from fresh ingredients.   The Fernielea pies rate very highly with our local clientele.

For young diners we have just launched yet another yummy range of kids food with items like homemade waffles served with peaches and cream and tasty sausages wrapped in flaky pastry. We don't deep fry anything!

A spruce up for Salute

In mid February, Salute closes to re-furbish, and  will re-launch on Friday 20th as ‘Bar Salute’, serving modern tapas from noon till late, Wednesday to Sunday.

This is an exciting move towards a more casual, relaxed and fun environment and offers the same great flavours as Salute has produced for the past 8 years, still born from the creative genius of chef/owner Travis Clive-Griffin.

The menu will be designed around the idea of "small plates" offering interesting flavours in an ever changing menu, alongside our great handmade pizzas and the fantastic service for which Salute is synonymous.

In a move to create more of a bar focus, there will be different areas for different moods, including a new outside deck, making the glorious shaded courtyard even more of a desirable spot to while away the afternoon or night!
